WHAT COFFEE DO YOU DRINK?
Normally my mornings are all about filter coffee. I’m not fussed about the method as long as the coffee makes my morning. I have a massive passion for brewing filter coffee so milky coffees have taken a back seat. However, my job requires me to drink espresso-based and milky coffees too.
WHAT WORK DO YOU DO?
I’ve been a coffee roaster for a while now. I just got a job at Padre Coffee. Roasting and beyond.
COOLEST ACHIEVEMENT?
I was pretty happy completing my university degree and living overseas with my girlfriend, but I think my coolest achievement was buying and fitting out my first home. Hopefully some more achievements to come in the near future.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
I’m a person that hates change so changing jobs in the next month will be my biggest challenge. I’m a little apprehensive; you always hope that your work is accepted and that everyone likes you. But fingers crossed and challenge accepted.
BEST ADVICE?
I think you need to be happy within yourself to enjoy life. Don’t get caught in a job or relationship that you are unhappy with. Find something that you are passionate about and run with it. My passion is coffee. I’m running with it and have never been happier.
This is a weird one.
Matty and I have never actually met but yet we both feel like we hang out all the time. We communicate via social media and email mostly about coffee, what we're up to and stuff thats going on in the industry. What I love about him and the people he's surrounded by, is his passion and the authentic nature he exudes.
A while back he did a spot at Climpsons Coffee Roasters here in London for a few months and then went back to Melbourne, where he originates. He's just been to Seattle for the biggest SCAA coffee expo event this year and is on his way back to Melbourne to start a brand new coffee roasting gig at Padre Coffee! ( A fuller interview about his trip to come later on #TGITC blog).
He really seems to be engaged in doing what he loves. I totally enjoy watching his journey on an impressive Instagram feed. Not only is he involved, helping out with his brother's new wine venture, (TAP. Wines), he also finds time to make and sell mad-as brew kits for himself and his friends (I WANT one!).
With many friends in common and both being obsessed with coffee and what we do, it feels good to be around people with similar attitudes.
